Buy Australian Florins

Welcome to the Florins category at Bradford Coins. Introduced in 1910 and informally known as a "two bob" piece, the florin was the largest and highest-denomination circulating silver coin in Australia prior to decimalization in 1966. Struck in sterling silver (.925) until 1945 and post-war silver (.500) thereafter, these substantial coins are a true cornerstone of Australian numismatics.

Since 1980, our family-run business in Cairns has been helping collectors across Australia build complete date sets and track down elusive minting flaws. Whether you are searching for a high-grade early date, a historic commemorative, or a spectacular mis-strike, you can shop our pre-decimal silver range with complete confidence.

We regularly acquire unique private collections, meaning our inventory spans the entire history of the denomination. While specific stock varies, you can generally expect to find:

• King George V (1910–1936): Shop the earliest Australian florins, struck in premium sterling silver. This era includes highly sought-after early dates and fascinating wartime strikes.
• King George VI (1938–1952): Discover mid-century silver featuring the classic Coat of Arms, spanning the critical transition from sterling to 50% silver in 1946.
• Queen Elizabeth II (1953–1963): Complete your pre-decimal collection with the final eras of the florin, offering an excellent entry point for new collectors seeking high, uncirculated grades.
• Commemorative Florins: The florin was uniquely chosen for Australia's early commemoratives. Look out for the famous 1927 Canberra, 1934-35 Melbourne Centenary, 1951 Federation, and 1954 Royal Visit issues.
• Varieties & Mint Errors: For the specialist collector, we regularly stock unique planchet flaws, metal peels, bitten edges, rim clips, and spectacular off-center mis-strikes.
